IAA 2017
hofer powertrain is already implementing the future as a system supplier today
The IAA 2017 opened its doors from 14 to 24 September. In addition to renowned car manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Ford, Opel, Mercedes, VW and Co., the system supplier hofer powertrain also used the stage at the 67th International Motor Show to present system solutions for the powertrain of tomorrow.
IMPLEMENTING THE FUTURE TODAY
Under this motto hofer powertrain presented its pioneering technology platform to numerous trade visitors, OEMs and representatives from politics. The presentation of the two family-owned companies, ElringKlinger and hofer powertrain, was particularly distinguished by the holistic system competence in the entire powertrain.
OUR VISION OF A NEW-ENERGY VEHICLE PLATFORM
Particular attention was devoted to our powertrain solution, which was fully integrated into an existing vehicle platform. The powertrain solution consists of a torque vectoring EDU (Electric Drive Unit) as the rear axle drivetrain, a compact EDU as the front axle drivetrain and a powerful battery as the energy storage. Customers and visitors were able to see the vision of a forward-looking technology platform. The system solution was designed and developed by hofer powertrain and completed by the corporation with ElringKlinger, who presented their expertise in the field of battery systems from the cell to the BMS (battery management system). The two companies, hofer powertrain as the specialist for efficient powertrain solutions and ElringKlinger with its expertise in industrialization and production, form a symbiosis that is optimally prepared for the change in the automotive industry.
SYSTEM COMPETENCE THROUGH TO VEHICLE INTEGRATION
Customers and visitors were particularly convinced by hofer powertrain’s system competence and the associated consideration of the overall system. The company has its roots in transmission technology but is now distinguished by its expanded expertise in hybrid, conventional and electric drive, battery, mechatronics, electronics, as well as software and functional solutions. The demo car was implemented by the hofer powertrain vehicle construction team with the necessary thermal and energy flows, and the geometric integration, whereby the company also demonstrated its expertise in vehicle integration.
